Integrated information technology framework for planning, operating and monitoring climate and energy workflows – SMARTEK (2020-1.1.2-PIACI-KFI-2021-00219)
Project Id: 2020-1.1.2-PIACI-KFI-2021-00219
Project description:
One of the main priorities of this decade is more effective and conscious management of natural resources, protection of the climate, and saving of health and the living environment. Adequate energy and climate management systems can help achieve these goals fixed in the UN Paris Agreement and confirmed at European and national levels. Local levels have a clear responsibility to make an appropriate contribution to energy efficiency and climate protection. However, regional planning and decision-making processes are often unable to rely on sufficient depth, relevant and up-to-date information and knowledge to provide a proper basis for sustainable development, operation, and maintenance of their systems and services and making appropriate medium-term decisions. At local levels, well-integrated and operating support systems for implementing energy management, environmental, and climate protection aims are mostly missing or incomplete; its elements work mosaic-like, so they do not always operate with the expected efficiency. Based on the work developed by researchers and registered in the IP national register, the University of Pannonia and 99999 Informatics Ltd. formulated a joint development program. The SMARTEK initiative is an integrated system with which the climate protection goals and activities of companies, plants, settlements, and communities can be well-founded, monitored, and evaluated. The SMARTEK project aims to intensify sustainable resource management, to develop the circular economy, with a support and monitoring system for each work process and decision level, by applying the latest technological solutions and tools. The knowledge management developed as a result of the project is IT-based. The software framework provides the background of this resource management system supported by highly diversified data assets and advanced, cloud-based decision-making support technologies and algorithms.
Well-optimized resource management will significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that drive climate change. The system may also reduce environmental impact and energy consumption on local levels. With its holistic approach and intelligent solutions, the SMARTEK project can increase the relevant synergies and uniquely combine several aspects of the eco-efficient development and maintenance of public or private infrastructure systems.
